Also, Adina made a wonderful dinner tonight. For Chanukah, she gave everyone coupons for a dinner of their choice, and mine was tonight. Chicken with potatoes, sweet potatoes, and apples, plus a nice green salad!

Also, Yehoshua had his parent-teacher meeting with Yosef's Rav - he's doing great in all areas, thank G-d. May he continue to go from strength to strength!
Yehoshua and I celebrated our twelfth wedding anniversary last night with a lovely meal at an elegant restaurant in Jerusalem. I had my favorite, goose liver, and chocolate souffle, after a warm glass of mulled wine. Afterwards, we walked around Yoel Solomon, checking out jewelry stores, etc. I am extremely proud of our marriage and am very happy to be married to Yehoshua and sharing our lives together.

Brief update
Hello all. I apologize for not posting pictures, I can't find the cable that connects the camera to the computer. Stymied by technology. I brought Sara for her hearing test today, and the technician officially found what the Tipat Chalav nurse found, which is that she has a slight hearing loss, and has a lot of fluid in her ear. So we go back to the pediatrician to determine the next move. He didn't seem too concerned last time, as long as her speech is on schedule... "Dadadadadadadada." Genius! AND she started waving bye-bye! She crawls around the first floor, triple-layered to keep her warm, getting into everything, whacking things on the floor to see what it sounds like, finding small pieces of garbage and putting them in her mouth. Soooooo yummy! I mean HER.
We are all going through our various responses to the war. Personally I hate Hamas pretty intensely. Living through a bunch of suicide bombings did that to me. Our neighbor downstairs just got called up for reserve duty, and last week when Yehoshua and I went out to breakfast we saw a number of couples with the man in uniform, obviously catching a few moments with the wife before heading south. Tension is up around here, YB seems to be especially sensitive and Y and I are drafting an Operation Home Happiness campaign. If you have any ideas or thoughts please email me, I'm always interested.

Wonderful
I went to a parent-teacher's meeting last night for Adina, and her teacher said, "She's wonderful, talented, cares about others, smart, just wonderful. All the other teachers say she's wonderful." Not surprising, but still brought a tear to this Jewish mom's eye. There was nothing negative to hear, so then I went home. She is really so awesome, and I'm glad they appreciate her. Also, Adina's interview with a Jerusalem author of kids' books was chosen to be in the school's English-language newsletter!
I am also grateful that my kids are getting such a great education, both Jewishly and in general studies. The teachers are so caring and devoted, and the general environment at the school is so positive.

FERRI IS READING
In Hebrew, and she only has a few vowels - but she gets the idea of sounding it out, putting it together, and she LOVES it. I keep thinking of Bettelheim and what he called "the child's fascination with reading." She asks to do "homework" (meaning basic reading/reading readiness material) with me, and I'm always the one who has to stop first. I can't tell who's more excited, her or me.
Sara is a scooter! She is now backing into corners, under chairs, next to sofas, and getting stuck. She rocks, a little bit on her knees. She did flunk her hearing test twice, both times she didn't respond to the high-pitched fairy tinkle bell. I will check with the pediatrician, who is also our neighbor and friend, and find out how much we need to worry. Standard procedure in Israel for this is is bring her to the pediatrician, who writes an authorization for the ENT, who clears the gook out of the ears, and then she gets sent for a more exact test at Hadassah Ein Kerem. Now that's what I want to do with my time!
YB is seriously into Tae Kwon Do - he goes early to his class, shmoozes with his teacher, and will be taking his test for yellow belt soon.
Adina has joined the local youth group, and is learning a dance for some kind of performance at the end of the month. We have restarted Bananot, the girls' group we make up as we go along. Today we discussed Harry Potter 7. Attendance was spotty, but the quality of the discussion was high.
I am experimenting with different kind of muffins. And I made a really delicious bread pudding with Y's leftover sourdough bread. The trick is to let it soak up the custard overnight in the fridge...mmmm.

Reaction to terrorism
I've gotten better at being aware of my internal response to terrorism. Usually it starts with fury and rage, and then I also move into anxiety, grief, and sadness. And shock. Like, What kind of people would attack hospitals?
Yehoshua and I are talking about how we want to respond. Tzedaka is a traditional Jewish response that we are considering, either to help rebuild the Chabad House or to support other Chabad educational endeavors. Over the past year, I've been in touch with a woman who runs Jewish services for a small city in the Ukraine, including the shul, the school, etc. She and her husband show characteristic Chabad selflessness, dedication, and energy. May H' bring recovery of body and soul to all those who have suffered in this terrorism, comfort to those who have lost loved ones, and justice to the perpetrators.

Yum
The bad news, of course, is what's going on in Mumbai...we are all dovening that the innocent be spared any continued suffering and that the terrorists get what they deserve. In much better news at home, Yehoshua made sourdough English muffins, which were delicious. They join his repertoire of sourdough bread, foccaccia, pancakes, and my favorite, bread with olives and Parmesan cheese. We've been eating well around here.

Garlic, radishes, and baby greens have sprouted!!!!!!!!!!! Basil is sort of holding, coriander is dying, and the mint smells fabulous, but isn't growing yet.
